State of Vermont Family Medical Leave Insurance (FMLI) Program Introduction

The purpose of the training webinar is to introduce the State of Vermont’s new voluntary FMLI benefit offering. Presenters will also include representatives from the State of Vermont as well as The Hartford Insurance company. The webinar will include detailed descriptions of potential plan design offerings, costs for the plan, and when the plan will be available.

At the end of this seminar participants will be able to:

• Know how to obtain quotes for the benefit
• Know how the FMLI Benefit Compliments STD and LTD

Presenter Bio:

Grant Van Der Beken, Regional Sales Director / New England Region at The Harford is an Eight-time Office of the Year nominee and four-time Office of the Year winner with expertise in Group Benefits sales leadership, account management, and business development management.

He has been in Group Benefits sales with The Hartford since 2005. In that time, his career has spanned several different job responsibilities and geographies – Chicago (Account Executive), Phoenix, AZ (Sales Manager), Regional Director of the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh offices, and a move back to his native New England in 2017 as the Regional Director for the Boston and Hartford offices. In addition to the regional responsibilities of his current role, he served as the national sales lead for The Hartford’s Public and Education vertical from 2015-2023 and currently provide sales support to our Paid Family Medical Leave product organization as the countrywide PFML Sales Lead. He is proud to represent sales on The Hartford’s Group Benefits DEI Council which provides space and support for our diversity efforts.

His offices have been nominated for – or won – Office of the Year 12x over the course of his managerial career. As an individual contributor, he was fortunate to qualify for Honors Conference 4 of 5 years that he was in production.

Outside of work, he supports two organizations directly through board service work: Webster House and Granite State Independent Living. Webster House gives children a safe and secure home if they’re unable to live at their home. GSIL supports social and economic equality for individuals with disabilities.

Him and his sons make their home in New Hampshire and enjoy everything the Granite State has to offer. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Union College (Schenectady, NY).

Joan Goldstein, Commissioner, Vermont Department of Economic Development comes to this position after six years as Executive Director of the Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation (GMDC). Under her tenure the regional development corporation for Northern Windsor and Orange counties was able to diversify services with real estate investments, brownfields and flood recovery grants, and innovative workforce development projects and programs. Prior to GMEDC, Goldstein worked as a small business advisor for the Vermont Small Businesses Development Corporation. Before to moving to Vermont from New York City 10 years ago, Joan spent 20 plus years in the financial services industry at JP Morgan and Credit Suisse in a variety of international sales, marketing, client relationship, and project management roles in the correspondent banking, equity capital markets, and private banking areas.
